I’ve found my spirit animal in you! 🤣 I have always found ways to work smarter not harder. I’ve never believed in presenteeism and always felt that if people stay late at the office it doesn’t signify that they are such hard workers or doing more, to me it means they can’t manage their workload in the time they have to do it. I always tell my team to take their time back, starting late, having longer lunches, and I’m never a “green light” watcher on teams. If the work is getting done and one person isn’t doing all the work, then I don’t expect people to be robots. 😅

I find the long lunches to be a hallmark of southern European countries. I used to work in a coworking space here in Lisbon and most people were from the UK, US, or Australia. It hurt me to see them gobbling their lunch in front of their computers. My girlfriend doesn't even have lunch while working. I have to insist several times for her to eat something. For me that's a sacrilege.

Lunch should be time off for self-care and enjoyment.

Since my company gives well-being hours, I take 1.5 for lunch each day and some of my team divide the hours by having 2 hour lunches on some days and I love a long lunch! Or just a brain break in the day. But yeah, my old company gave 30 minute lunches and that’s definitely not enough time to eat never mind gather yourself again. 😭 Your girlfriend needs to take your advice. 😅🤣

1.5h is quite a long lunch haha. In Spain and Portugal, the norm is having 1h lunch break.
