I Took Some Time Off Substack — Here's Why
“Focus is a matter of deciding what things you’re not going to do.” — John Carmack
I’d like to be honest with you.
When I started this newsletter back in September 2023, I didn’t know what I was doing. The only thing I knew for sure was that I liked writing.
More than a year later, +60 weekly posts in, I still like writing. But now I know what I’m doing — and it’s not building a career as an author.
In May 2024, I started my e-commerce brand to sell in Amazon US. In December my first product was live. Today, I’m building my reputation with reviews and doing pretty well on my first month.
Why do I tell you all of this?
Because it has everything to do with my focus and nothing to do with this newsletter.
There seems to be a mismatch.
While Choose Right has helped me build self-discipline, consistency, and get to know other talented authors, I’m not sure it’s aligned with my goals at this point.
There’s more
I have my assets spread across more securities, tokens, and institutions than I can track. I searched for a financial app that could make sense of it all. Nothing ticked all the boxes.
So, I’m building one.
Since December, I’ve been laser-focused on building my dream financial management app. Every minute working on it has been exciting. I have a clear vision, and I’m committed to bringing it to life.
Imagine looking forward to tracking your expenses. Heck, imagine doing double-entry accounting for your personal finance and enjoying it.
That’s the experience I’m creating. If you’re a business owner, finance enthusiast, or just someone who values efficiency and aesthetics, I think you’ll love it too.
I’ll keep you posted.
Am I quitting Substack then?
Not quite. I still love writing, and I’ll still feel the urge to share my thoughts—whether it’s twice a week or once every three months. I just can’t predict the timing, format, or even the topic.
But if you’ve enjoyed reading about self-employment, decision-making, and discipline, my journey as a builder might still resonate with you.
If you choose to leave, thank you for your time and attention.
If you stay, let’s ride along.
Last but not least…
Some shameless self-promotion. Or should I say shelf promotion?
People are loving my Cat Shelves Set so far, and I want to spread the love to you too!
If you have a cat or know someone who has one, you can enjoy 10% off on your next order with this promo code:
KERWIS2025
The code is valid until February 9th.
That’s all for now, thanks a lot for your attention!
i totally get your shift in priorities. entreprenuership is a 24/7 thing. still looking forward to your occassional posts! also fellow personal finance nerd here, excited to see what you come up with.
I love the idea of this one-place app AND the cat shelves are so, so cute. I'm tempted to buy some for my cat but would have to see if my husband would let us 'decorate' the walls with such a thing. Heh!
Also, I'm sure we'd all love to hear from you when you post and are okay if that means every month, every quarter, etc or whatever works for you. I wish you SO much luck with all your endeavours and focuses this year.
